Happy Caturday, Missians! (This greeting applies to all pets, but because Missy's a cat, she prefers the term, Caturday).
We hope that everyone enjoyed today's show, "Family Friendly Pets". If you missed it, be sure to check it out now in the archives:

This was a quick 45 minute show. As usual, we didn't get to share all the information we had on hand, so we've included some links on our Facebook page for those who'd like to do further research on today's topic.

Just remember, the decision to get a pet is an important one for you and your potential pet. You want to make sure that you choose a pet that will be a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. This can spare a lot of heartache for everyone involved later on (trust me I know this from experience). For example, certain dogs need more exercise, playtime, and free space to roam than others and would do well with active children who like to go outside and play everyday (and have a big back yard). So if you have a baby or really young child who can't keep up with the dog, and you as the adult are not very active yourself, this type of dog might not be the best choice for you, (especially if you already live in an apartment and would have to take the dog to a park everyday to run around).
If you have smaller children who are not equipped to deal with the responsibility of a dog or cat, but want to experience the joys of having a pet, there are options such as guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, and even hermit crabs, (however, keep in mind if the child wants personalized interaction with the pet, the hermit crab may not be the best option).
Many other things also have to be considered such as how long the pet will live, how expensive it will be to have the pet in the long run, what kind of health problems each animal is prone to, your child's personality, the pet's personality, and many other factors. So though you don't want choosing a pet to become stressful, be sure not to take the situation lightly.
In the end, it's about making sure that all parties are happy and having a great experience--the human family members and the animal ones!
Once again, wishing my sister a Happy 29th Birthday and many more to come!
And wishing all our blog readers and radio listeners a wonderful remainder of your Saturday!
