Happy Fursday, Missians! And Happy New Year!
This is our first blog entry of 2016. D and I missed you guys, and are extremely happy to be back. We hope all of you are having a great new year so far. We air our first Missy Show episode of the year this Saturday, January 9th at our normal time of 5pm Central. Saturday's episode is entitled, "New Year Pet News: (Animals in 2016)". Okay, now on to our Featured Pet of the Day, (which will partially be our topic on Saturday's show). We decided we wanted our featured pet to be none other than Smurf the kitten. For those of you who don't know about Smurf, he is the kitten that was dyed purple and was likely used as a chew toy for dogs. Smurf was rescued by The San Jose Animal Care Center and was brought to Nine Lives.
Luckily Smurf's wounds were treatable. He his injuries involved his hind leg and shoulder. The vet who's treating Smurf doesn't believe that he was used in professional dog fighting, but rather as a dog's chew toy for amusement. Either way, what this sweet kitten went through was still a heinous act of animal cruelty. If he hadn't been found when he was, he likely wouldn't have survived. We're happy to report that so far, Smurf is doing a lot better. Special thanks to all the caring staff who've been treating him and nursing him back to health.
For now Smurf must remain in his temporary home at Nine Lives to continue receiving treatment. He won't be adopted out until there are no more traces of purple dye in his fur. So all you potential Smurf-adopters must be patient. It could take months before the purple color is completely gone. Keep in mind, that while Smurf likely has hundreds or thousands of people ready and willing to give him a home, there are so many other animals out there who are not receiving media attention, that also need good homes; and though it's a wonderful sentiment that so many caring people out there are willing to share their homes and love with Smurf, (and we can't wait until that happens), do also consider some of the other animals in shelters who're in similar situations, with no one lined up to take them home.
We'll have more details on little Smurf's condition on Saturday's show, along with other pet news. Until then, let's all keep Smurf and all the other shelter and homeless animals in our prayers. Check out tomorrow's blog entry for Friday Pet Trivia. And remember, love has no color!
Until then, this is your host J, signing off............
