Happy Friday, Missians!
Welcome to your first Christmas in July blog post. Remember I'll be posting every day in the month of July. D and I, (or sometimes just me), will also be doing some "pop-up" Missy Show episodes. Our pop-up shows will be unannounced, and we'll post a link to them shortly after they're done, (definitely no later than the next day).
There'll also be updates to The Missy Show website coming up this month--so stay tuned.
With all that said, let's get into today's topic. Drumroll please.........
Cats drinking wine!
Let me repeat that. Cats drinking wine. No, that's not a typo. I clicked on an animal story link from someone on Facebook, and after reading that particular article, I noticed a thumbnail pic, asking, something to the effect of, "have you ever wanted to drink wine with your cat"? Upon seeing it, I couldn't resist clicking, and hence, I tumbled onto the fascinating topic of cats drinking "wine".
Thank goodness they're not drinking real wine, but it looks close enough. Because grapes are toxic to cats, this "wine" is made from beets. Apparently cats can safely consume beets with no problems. So no worries. This drink contains neither alcohol nor grapes, so your kitty is good to go to lap up a quick glass. It even comes in the cute flavors of "MosCato" and "Pinot Meow".
According to an article on The Huffington Post, (not the original site that hipped me to the topic),
"Apollo Peak wine is made with organic catnip and water and colored with organic beet juice (the “white” varieties are colored with golden beets)".
They even have cute pictures of some felines posing with the brew in wine glasses--and there's also a video of a kitty seemingly enjoying his new found treat. Here's a link to the Huffington Post article, (be sure to click on the golden tabby's picture to make the video play):

And in case you were wondering, Apollo Peak was not the first company to produce cat wine. A Japanese company called Nyan Nyan Nouveau was actually the first, (but that one does contain some grape juice, based on what I've read--and remember what we said about grapes and cats). How's that for some pet trivia?
This was the original article that led me to do more research, just in case you were interested. There are actually quite a few articles out there about it:

So how's that for your first Christmas in July post? At least I kept it interesting! Join me tomorrow for another "C.I.J". post. Wonder what our next topic will be?
Until next time,
This is your host J,
