Take Your Dog to Work Day

Happy Friday, Missians!

Guess what today is?  Yep.  It's that time again.  Time to take your dog to work!  Before we get into that, I just want to remind you guys that we'll be having another Google Hangouts, Missy Show episode, tomorrow.  It's entitled, "Rabies, Protecting Yourself and Your Pets."  We air at our normal time of 5pm Central.

I know I said that we might go back to doing weekly shows again in July, but since next Saturday will be July 1st, and that'll be 4th of July weekend, I've decided we won't air an episode that day; but we'll still put out our list of 4th of July, Pet Safety tips, (on the blog).  I'll let you guys know soon, how we'll be proceeding with the show for the month of July.  Okay, so the big question is now, who's bringing their dog to work today?

First off, what is this holiday, and how did it begin?  The event was created in 1999 by Pet Sitters International.  According to their site,  this holiday is "to celebrate the great companions dogs make and promote their adoptions".  It sounds like an awesome idea!  And did you know this whole week, (June 19th-23rd), was Take Your Pet to Work Day?  That meant cats too!  Cool.  Too bad, I didn't do a write up on that at the beginning of this week--but hey, there's always next year.

Below, is a complete FAQ from Pet Sitters International, regarding today's holiday; but please be sure to visit their website to check out more details on how to coordinate bringing your pup to work, with your company--plus other cool info.

The 2017 event will take place on Friday, June 23. The information below answers some of the most commonly asked questions about the event. If you need additional information, please contact takeyourdog@petsit.com.

• TYDTWDay® was first celebrated in 1999. This year marks the 19th annual event.

• It was created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) to celebrate the great companions dogs make and promote their adoptions.

• The event encourages employers to experience the joys of pets in the workplace for one day to support their local pet community.

• TYDTWDay is an annual event and is always celebrated on the Friday following Father’s Day.

• It also accommodates cat lovers (and other pets) and those who cannot participate on TYDTWDay. The entire week leading up to the event, June 19-23, is Take Your Pet To Work Week™.

• Event creator PSI is the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters. For any day pets can’t be at work, pet owners can search PSI’s Official Pet Sitter Locator free-of-charge to find a local professional pet sitter.

• PSI feels that through the events, non-pet owners are able to witness the special bond their co-workers have with their pets firsthand and be encouraged to adopt a new best friend of their own.

• An estimated 300 businesses participated in the inaugural celebration of TYDTWDay. Since that time, America’s love affair with pets and interest in TYDTWDay has grown to an all-time high.

• PSI does not track the day’s participation rates because companies are not required to register in order to participate. However, the association’s tracking tools indicate that overall involvement around the event grows each year, with hundreds of thousands of visitors exploring takeyourdog.com each year.

Even if you can't bring your dog to work today, by checking out The Pet Sitter website, you can have a whole year to get things set up for next June.  Why not plan a "take your dog to work" event with your company now?

I hope you guys enjoyed today's post.  And remember, if your company won't allow you to bring Fido to work, you can always throw him a party, (check out this past Tuesday's post for more details).  Here's to wishing everyone an awesome weekend!

We'll see you guys tomorrow at 5pm Central for show time.  Until then...

This is your host J,
signing off...
