Happy Mondo Missy Monday!
I hope you guys have had a fabulous Monday. Thanks to those of you who tuned in to our Google Hangouts episode, "Why You Shouldn't Own a Pet" on Saturday. Once again, I apologize for the technical difficulties we were having. My modem is toast, (this happens way too often with AT&T), so, we haven't had internet all weekend. When this happens, I have to use my phone as a hot-spot, in order to do my shows. Now whether that had anything to do at all with our issues, I don't know; but at any rate, my deepest apologies. We're supposed to have a new modem by the time this is published. We'll see how it goes. (Sidebar: we got a new modem, and it STILL doesn't work)!
Now for the reason you're here--Leviathans and Behemoths. Okay, so, what the heck is a Leviathan, (hint: it's not those creepy "guys" led by Dick Roman on Supernatural), or a Behemoth? Both of these terms come from the Bible. No one's exactly sure what each of these beasts were supposed to be, though we have some guesses. But the way they're described, they don't seem to be creatures you'd want to go toe to toe with.
What the Bible says about Leviathans:
https://www.openbible.info/topics/leviathan
Job 41:1-34
“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook or press down his tongue with a cord? Can you put a rope in his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook? Will he make many pleas to you? Will he speak to you soft words? Will he make a covenant with you to take him for your servant forever? Will you play with him as with a bird, or will you put him on a leash for your girls? ...
Isaiah 27:1
In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.
Job 3:8
Let those curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up Leviathan.
Psalms 104
Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. There go the ships, and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it.
Job 41:31
"Leviathan makes the water boil with its commotion. It stirs the depths like a pot of ointment.
A Fearsome Crocodile?
It has been theorized that the Leviathan is nothing more than an older version of a modern day crocodile. Let's just say, I'm not really sure about that. Though crocodiles are ferocious, and I wouldn't want to go up against one, this thing sounds more like the mythical monsters from Greek and Roman mythology. It seems a bit more fearsome and Sea Serpent-like.
What does the Bible say about the Behemoth?
Job 40:15-24
Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. What strength it has in its loins, what power in the muscles of its belly! Its tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of its thighs are close-knit. Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like rods of iron. It ranks first among the works of God, yet its Maker can approach it with his sword. The hills bring it their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby. Under the lotus plants it lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. The lotuses conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround it. A raging river does not alarm it; it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth. Can anyone capture it by the eyes, or trap it and pierce its nose?
Dinosaur theories:
Some people believe that the Behemoth could have been a type of dinosaur. Though the bible doesn't specifically use the term, "dinosaur," the above description does sound similar to the enormous size and strength dinosaurs were purported to have. So, even though dinosaurs were extinct by the time modern humans came on the scene, humans in biblical times could have very well shared the planet with these beasts. Some have hypothesized that the Behemoth is some creature much more simple, such as an elephant, rhino, buffalo, or hippopotamus; but which of these named animals has a tail that sways like a Cedar tree? None! So, could these be the dinosaurs that mysteriously disappeared from our realm? Perhaps.
Check out this article for an opinion that both leviathans and behemoths were dinosaurs:

So based on what you've read, what do you think? Were these creatures the dinosaurs of old? Or were they simply early versions of crocodiles, (for the Leviathan), and elephants or hippos (for the Behemoth)? We can never know for sure; but it's still an interesting topic. You be the judge.
Until next time, (hopefully, we'll have internet).
