Who Else Walks Among Us? Black-Eyed Kids

Happy Monday, Missians!

I hope you guys have had a magnificent Monday!  Sorry to be putting this blog post out so late.  I was spending a lot of the weekend getting things set up for the release of my book, April 1st, on Kindle, (more on that, in another post), and brainstorming more blog and episode topics for the rest of the year; but I guess it is appropriate to release this post close to night-time anyway, considering the subject matter, (though some of you may not like it--if you're Fraidy-cats like me).  Today's "Monsters" of March are the Black-Eyed Kids, (also known as Black-Eyed Children).  Now every since I first heard about the Black-Eyed Kids, I've been extremely fascinated, and creeped out by them.  But just who or what the heck are these things?

How they look and sound
Black-eyed kids are reported as looking like normal children or teenagers--from a distance; but it's when you get a closer look, that their true creep-factor emerges.  For one, unlike normal humans, they don't have any whites to their eyes.  Their whole eyeball is completely black, (not just their irises).  They've also been described as being very pale, and having awkward mannerisms.  Much like people's reports of Men in Black encounters, (that's a post for another time), the Black-Eyed Kids, though dressed like humans and able to talk, seem more to be imitating what they think a human should look and sound like.  Their voices are sometimes reported to be monotonous, and there's just a sense of "something not being right" about them.  But that's still not the creepiest part.

"Let us in"
The creepiest thing about the Black-Eyed Kids, is their insistence upon being let into either your vehicle or your home.  They usually show up in pairs, and knock on people's car doors or the doors to people's homes, stating some excuse as to why you need to let them in.  They may say they need a ride somewhere.  Sometimes, it's that they "need" to come in, so they can use your telephone.  With many of these encounters, people state that they almost feel as though they're in a trance, and despite their fear, find themselves about to let the children in.  Thankfully, in most cases, however, an overwhelming terror takes over, and they end up not letting the children inside.  At this point, the children can get angry and persistent, insisting to be let in, and telling their potential human victims, that they have to invite them in.  When they realize, the person isn't going to give in, the Black-Eyed Kids typically, just disappear.

The earliest known report
One of the earliest known reports of a Black-Eyed Kid encounter occurred in 1998.  Here's an excerpt of the encounter from Mysterious Universe:

This strange trend was first reported by journalist Brian Bethel on January 16, 1998. According to Bethel, two boys approached him while he was sitting in his parked car. Bethel described the kids in prototypical BEK fashion as stylish, olive skinned kids. The boys asked for a ride home explaining that they were on their way to the movies, but had forgotten their money.
Bethel claimed that he was overwhelmed by a “fight-or-flight” response, but was nevertheless tempted to allow the boys entrance into the vehicle. He resisted the urge, which seemed to only agitate the boys, who grew ever more adamant that they be allowed into the car. It was then that Bethel finally noticed their “coal black” eyes, whereupon he was momentarily paralyzed with fear.
The black-eyed beings seemed to realize that their window of opportunity was closing and their demands reached a fever pitch, at which point Bethel collected himself and promptly exited the scene. Thus began the “official” saga of the BEKs.
From what I've read and heard, letting these things in, seems to be a very bad idea.  David Weatherly tells of an encounter where one of these beings is let into a woman's automobile by her young child, while they are at a gas station (or convenience store).  I can't recall all the details, but somehow, she gets the Black-Eyed Kid out, and calls her husband, because she's so shaken up.  The husband arrives, and switches vehicles with his wife.  While the husband is driving his wife's vehicle, he gets into an accident and gets seriously hurt.  From there, he goes on to have a string of bad luck with his health and other areas of his life.

I first learned a lot of fascinating information regarding the Black-Eyed Kids from  author and researcher, David Weatherly (whom I mentioned above).  I was introduced to him through the radio show, Coast to Coast AM, (a cool program exploring paranormal/supernatural topics).  He has collected many eerie, first-hand accounts of people's terrifying experiences with these "children."  Mr. Weatherly has a website, where you can find out more regarding Black-Eyed Kids, and check out his research on other paranormal happenings.  Check it out here:

What are they?
So what are they?  Demons?  Extra-dimensional beings?  Aliens?  Human-alien hybrids?  Hallucinations?  Hoaxes?  I have no idea.  All of these theories have been proposed.  We'll probably never know for sure.  I don't want to get close enough to one, to ever get a clear-cut answer.  I'll leave that to Mr. Weatherly and others like him, to find out--then I'll just read about it!

Creeped out enough yet?  I thought you'd be.  Me too.  So let's end the discussion here--or at least until daylight.  Probably should've saved this one for October Pet Spooktacular.  Who knows, if you guys enjoyed this, we just may revisit it then.  If you have your own Black Eyed-Kid encounter, I'd love to hear about it.  Hit me up in the comments, if you'd like to share!

Until next time,
This is your host J,
Signing off...
