What Monster is This? Pursuing the Sheepsquatch

Happy Sunday, Missians!

So are we ready to get creeped out by yet another Monster of March?  If the answer's yes, then your in luck, because today's monster brings on even more bizarre than last week's.  Today's creature in question, is the Sheepsquatch.  Just what in the world in a "sheepsquatch"?  Glad you asked.  Keep reading.

How does the Sheepsquatch look?
Sheepsquatch (also known as "The White Thing"), is reported as being about the size of a bear, covered in white colored hair/fur.  Some reports have the beast as much as 8-9 feet tall.  It allegedly reeks of sulfur and has front paws (or hands), similar to those of a raccoon--only much larger.  And to make its description sound even scarier, it also features goat-like horns, and a long hairless tail.  Some people even described it as having four eyes!  Super creepy!

Where has it been sighted?
The creature has primarily been sighted in West Virginia, (Mothman, anyone?), in the counties of Boone, Mason, Putnam, and Kanawha.  There was an especially large number of sightings in Boone County in the 1990's.

Who saw it?
In 1995, "a couple driving through Boone County observed a large white beast sitting in the ditch alongside the roadway. As many curious passersby might do in such a situation, they stopped their car to get a better look at it. They came to describe the creature again as mostly similar to earlier descriptions, yet they added that the creature had "four eyes". In stark contrast to the last sighting where the Sheepsquatch fled the scene, the creature leaped out of the ditch and started to attack the car. Frightened by the attack, the couple drove off quickly, and once they arrived back at home noticed large scratches on the side where the beast had attacked".

"In 1999, a couple of campers who were in the forest at night, again in Boone County, around a bonfire. They eventually heard an animal snorting and scuffling around the camp in a manner similar to an aggravated bear, though it did not come into the light of the campfire immediately.
All of a sudden the Sheepsquatch suddenly charged out of the darkness at the campers. Reacting quickly, they jumped up and ran back into their house, all the while being pursued by the Sheepsquatch. The white thing stopped at the edge of the forest when they crossed it and let out a "terrible scream". It then turned around and headed back into the woods. The next morning, the campers returned to their campsite and the trail home, finding it to be torn up."
As recently as 2015, "In Fulks Run, Virginia, the beast was spotted once again in the forests of Appalachia. The creature was spotted close to midnight by six campers, spending the night in the dense woods. The beast was reportedly 8-9 feet tall with a shoulder length of 4-5 feet. One of the campers first saw the beast at the top of the near by hill, in a crouching position. Then it stood up, and he alerted the other campers. Then it started running down the steep hill toward the campers, but they were separated by the river that was flowing through. They look in horror as it searched for a way to cross, and with no other option, began to wade through the river. It finally came out of the water, and the campers reported that it appeared like a bipedal dog in the chest, with its fur wet from the river crossing. Then a loud gut-based screech was heard about two miles off from where they were. Then the Sheepsquatch looked up in shock, just high enough so the moonlight was in its face, and the campers looked on in fear as it let out a pathetic whimper, then in a sprint, ran in the opposite direction of the noise. The campers quickly packed and left, then reported it to the locals, fearing that if the authorities were informed, they would be ridiculed".

Other "White Things" have been spotted in West Virginia.  The mountain folk in these areas are well aware of such beasts.  They are described in different ways.  Some are reported as resembling huge bears, (as with Sheepsquatch), while other are said to look like badgers, wolves, or even cows.  Like Sheepsquatch, they are also covered in some kind of white hair or fur.  They seem to be unaffected by bullets, and many times people have reported attempting to hit one when being attacked, only to have their fist go right through the creature as if it were a ghost.  Also like Sheepsquatch, people may feel as if White Things are actually biting or clawing at them, only to later find that they've not sustained any type of physical injuries.
One of the earliest reports of contact with a White Thing took place in 1929 in Morgan's Ridge, when a Croatian immigrant by the name of Frank Kozul, decided to take a shortcut through some woods one night after ending his shift at work.  This desire for a quick route home, resulted in Kozul being "attacked" by a white thing.  It was only after falling down near a graveyard did the beast finally disappear and stop its assault.  As with other white thing encounters, Kozul was sure he'd been injured by the creature only to find no marks or scratches.

"In an account from the 1970's or early 1980's, a group of men went deer hunting out of season.  Suddenly they heard an ungodly scream like a woman in agony.  Before they could react, a White Thing tore out of the brush and leaped upon one of the hunters, knocking him to the ground.  Man and beast rolled down a hill, both screaming.  When his comrades found him, the hunter was lying on his back punching at air.  He screamed that the beast had ripped his guts out.  But not a mark was found on him.  Shaken, he couldn't believe that he wasn't wounded, for he had felt the beast's teeth sink into his flesh.  He'd felt his entrails snapped out of his body.  The hunters tried to convince themselves that the beast was a feral dog.  The victim had nightmares for years".
