What is the Capybara?

Happy Fursday, my fine feathered friends!

Don't ask me why I just referred to all of you as birds.  I just felt like saying something different.
You know, y;all are still my Missians.  Well I decided to let today just be a regular Fursday Featured Pet Post.  Of course, by this being Christmas in July, some Fursdays may have a different theme.

Okay today's Featured Pet is the Capybara.  If you're like me, most of you have probably never heard of a Capybara.  So just what is this animal, you ask?  Well the Capybara is a type of rodent.  The largest rodent to be exact.  Here's a picture:

According to Wikipedia:

The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a large rodent of the genus Hydrochoerus of which the only other extant member is the lesser capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius). The capybara is the largest rodent in the world. Close relatives are guinea pigs and rock cavies, and it is more distantly related to the agouti, chinchillas, and the coypu. Native to South America, the capybara inhabits savannas and dense forests and lives near bodies of water. It is a highly social species and can be found in groups as large as 100 individuals, but usually lives in groups of 10–20 individuals. The capybara is not a threatened species and is hunted for its meat and hide and also for a grease from its thick fatty skin which is used in the pharmaceutical trade.

I thought this animal looked pretty cool and interesting, but it was these pictures that really made me take notice of the creature, and maybe even add it to my list of favorite animals:

Just look at how gentle they seem!  These are just a few pics from Top13.net.  The title of the small article is "Why Do Animals Like Capybaras So Much?".  Please check out the other pictures.  The one of the capybara and the crocodile is kind of hard to believe--but hey maybe the croc had already eaten--or even he likes the capybara just that much!

So I hope this motivates you guys to learn more about the Capybara.

Here's to wishing you all a Furrific Fursday!
